I finally got my server in for my home lab. The problem is I didn’t know what I was going to do with it space wise, but I knew it couldn’t stay on the floor. I did some googling and found some people vertically mount their rack servers. So, I went to eBay and found a 1U wall rack that had four-screw mounting holes. The thing that bothered me was people saying to use zip ties to secure the server to the rack.
I used Wallclaw screw anchors to mount the rack to the wall. Once I got the rack on the wall, I wanted to secure the server using the rack screws, not zip ties. The Dell rabbit ears have a small screw that works with their Easyrail system. I’m not using that, so I took a look at the rabbit ear assembly and noticed that there was housing around their spring-loaded screw. I took a pocket knife and popped the screw out the front of the housing.
I put a standard M8 cage screw through the hole and it mounted like normal with cage nut. No zip ties!
